Water Rescue Training

All water rescue courses at our adventure centre are administered by Rescue 3 Europe, whose courses are the only internationally recognised white water rescue courses. Training courses are valid for three years and upon completion students receive a certificate, ID card, badge and skill sheets co-signed by themselves and the instructor. A copy of this is sent to Rescue 3 Europe who then enter the student onto their database.

Organisations for whom we have provided swift water rescue training courses for include: UK Emergency Services such as South Wales Police and numerous UK Fire & Rescue teams, the Irish Fisheries Board, Shetland Airport Rescue, Severn Area Rescue Association and Mountain Rescue teams across the UK.  Closed courses are also a popular option for organisations where courses can be tailored to meet specific needs.

The centre owner (Anthony) has over 20 years' experience in swift and white water environments. As a professional Kayak Coach with a passion for global kayaking this has taken him to extreme locations and conditions all over the world, including expedition work, the first descents of rivers, and working as a professional river guide and rescue technician and as a technical advisor to a variety of agencies. This passion for safety and working in this white water environment has led to the Old Vicarage Adventure Centre being one of the few external training venues in the UK offering these swift water rescue training courses and the only training provider for the Himalayas including India, Nepal and Bhutan.

UK Emergency Services

The Rescue 3 scheme has a large take up amongst the UK emergency services and voluntary rescue sector. The scheme reflects the needs and procedures set out by The Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) and the fire service manual training standards for inland water operations (module 1-5). All rescue 3 courses are also recognised within the Fire Service team typing model and is therefore perfect for benchmarking across teams and services.

The Core Courses / Modules for Rescue that we currently offer include:

Module 1 / Awareness Water rescue

Suitable for all personnel who are exposed to water hazards, but not expected to conduct rescue operations.

Module 2 / Basic First Responder

Ideal for bank based operators, who may need to conduct rescues from the bank or shallow water, still water wading.

Module 3 / Swift Water Rescue Technician

The requirement for technical water rescue personnel who may need to enter the water as part of a rescue.

Module 4 / Swift Water Rescue Boat Operations

Specific course for powerboat operations at flood and other inland incidents. We can also deliver the RYA level 2 powerboat element. This is a new addition to our Rescue 3 administered water safety and rescue training courses and prices are currently being developed.  Please contact us for more details: 01746718436 or enquiries@ovac.co.uk
