Introduction to Rock Climbing and Abseiling

This one-day course aims to give you the chance to learn new climbing skills under the direct supervision of our qualified instructors. The day starts with the basics on our own climbing wall. You will be taught basic rope work, belay and abseil techniques, and personal climbing skills in the morning. In the afternoon we move to a local crag.

This low participant numbers and highly trained staff we aim to give you as much training and development to get you really into this exhilarating sport.

Climbing is totally unique, it takes you to some breath taking locations and when you reach the top of your first climb or control your first big abseil, the sense of achievement is second to none.

Climbing Wall Award (CWA)

This award covers the skills and leadership needed to introduce and supervise novice climbers on typical top roping and bouldering climbing walls. There is an additional module in supervising abseiling from artifical structures included as part of this CWA training course. Techniques and skills for abseiling and top access on artificial climbing structures will be covered. The course covers equipment, rigging and customer management across a variety of situations appropriate to both indoor and outdoor structures. A great addition to your Climbing Wall Award training.  

This award is useful for teachers, youth leaders, scout and Duke of Edinburgh Award supervisors who have access to a climbing wall or artifical climbing/abseiling structure.  

Candidates need to be registered with one of the home nation Mountain Leader Training boards (MLTE) prior to booking any Climbing Wall Awards or Training, they will need at least 6 months climbing experience, have climbed on an articifical structure at least 15 times, visited 3 different climbing walls and be able to lead climbs on an indoor wall.

CWA Training

The two day training course will focus on group supervision, safety and coaching movement skills. The module on group abseils will also be covered.

Climbing Wall Award Assessment

This one day course covers the main award and abseil module. Students will need to have completed the CWA training prior to assessment.

Climbing Wall Award Abseil Module Assessment

This one day course covers the abseil module. Students will need to have completed the abseil module (included in the 2 day CWA training course above) prior to assessment.
